Hurray! I have been invited to the opening of 'Tribal Trousseau' at The Nomads Tent in Edinburgh next week. I can't wait I hope it is all as wonderful as the elephant pictured above.

Rope and string

I have loved acquiring the skill to make rope from Tim Johnson and it is great integrating beach combings into it.

Tim Johnson Master Class II

Yesterday it was NC Furniture's turn to learn traditional weaving skills from Artist, Tim Johnson. They created structures to span the atrium, and learnt new skills and approaches to designing and making. As well as seeing the breadth of inspiration that an artist such as Tim Johnson draws from.

Tim Johnson Master Class

Yesterday was the first of two master classes with artist Tim Johnson. My NC Fashion students learnt how to make string, ropes, braids and how to weave, a busy, fun day. Today some of the fashion students are gatecrashing the furniture students workshop so it promises to be even more hectic . . . can't wait.

Alireza Goldouzian

Sometimes it takes hours to establish who an artist is and where images come from. I found the top illustration this evening by Iranian illustrator, Alireza Goldouzian, and fell in love. I love the wheels, the misty airbrush effect and the strange cat owl creature. It is from the book 'The Odds in Creation'.

Andrea Cavagnaro

Andrea Cavagnaro is a textile artist from Beunos Aires, Argentina, who creates these intricate cut and layered felt sculptures, resembling the paper cuts of Jen Stark. And so a new week starts, fueled by a desire for colour, fuzzy felts and toxic sweets. I hope it is a good one for you all. (thanks)

Noah Woods

Bold and bright, Noah Woods uses intense colour and basic shapes, on collaged backgrounds to form his illustrations. Noah's work has a beguiling simplicity and richness that reminds you of childhood fuzzy felts and toxic coloured sweets. He has published an award winning children's book, Tom Cat.

Rosalie Gascoigne II

Above: Clouds, Below: Magpie
Above Hollyhocks.
Rosalie Gascoigne's titles for these quite abstract pieces also appeal to me, and I love that I understand, it makes me smile.

Rosalie Gascoigne I

This week I found the work of Rosalie Gascoigne (1917-1999). I love the soft washed out, white washed, sea washed qualities of this artists work that are like a mosaic of sea treasure or a jigsaw of driftwood.

Matteo Cocci

Matteo Cocci's new work has a wonderful delicate pallet and treatment. It reminds me of walls stripped of paper and cracked plaster I love that rough used and lived in texture and treatment of paint.

Sora Mizusawa

Today's inspiration, after a week of making plastic bottle people with my students, is this lovely light bulb person by Sora Mizusawa. I joyfully found a light bulb on the beach this morning, the first of many I hope, and I can't wait to see who's face is going to come smiling out at me from its glass dome.

Anja Brunt II

Anja Brunt has some new people to introduce to you, her lovely paint brush people, and because of these new friends I discovered the work of her friend Tineke Meirink in the post below.

Toast dresses, hearts and birds

A little bit of a heart for Valentines Day. I spent a mad weekend trying to construct a dress from toast to inspire my students working on a portfolio of 'food inspired fashion'. It is now hanging on the line to feed the birds.

I hope you are all having a very happy Valentines Day.
