I have been looking forward to today since after the Christmas holiday and it lived up to my expectations. I am not teaching this wonderful group of students as of next week. I let them know that we only had a few weeks left and introduced the idea of a paper mache graffiti project. Having told them the previous years themes this group decided on 'The Little Mermaid' as their theme and then worked really hard so today we got to go out with Ursula, Flounder and Ariel.

The best part of the day?

Reversing up to a nursery gates and seeing the little children running to the railings screaming with delight, . . . and very, very happy students.

Thank you WWP you have been great fun to work with x (More Pictures)

Ursel Arndt

". . . In Germany we have a problem . . .schools no longer teach in old handicraft techniques . . . "you can learn it from your grandmother" they say. But she no longer lives with the children in our modern society . . ."

Ursel Arndt took three years collecting all the flowers for this quilt, some of the flowers were made especially for it, some are over a hundred years old.

More works by Deborah Barrett, the top image reminds me of the wonderful work of Alasdair Anderson.

Deborah Barrett

Deborah Barrett was a naive artist who worked in mixed media to create her humorous, observed art works, in both sculpture and painting.

Analu Prestes II

This week promises to be just as eventful and wild as last week, after the teaching, Friday is a Brown Paper Challenge for my Fashion students, and so my mind is on paper and paper cuts. I wanted to share Analu Prestes's paper cuts, Analu mixes folds with cuts to create three dimensional work with shadows, and sometimes she paints her work to increase it's contrast.

Hannah Bertram

Australian artist Hannah Bertram works on painstakingly time consuming and detailed works of art. I love her pierced bills and envelopes, her work is epitomised by last years installations entitled 'the silence of becoming and disappearing'. For me, it is an exploration of life and its sometimes lonely and quite demise.
