Oh My ......... amazing

Last year, I must have missed this wild Dutch man nesting in Rotterdam.
In case you missed it too, here is artist, actor, theatre designer, Benjamin Verdonck's nest, isn't it wonderful.

Nests for April 1st

Above: Nest by Nils Udo 1978
"I smelled the earth, the stones, the freshly struck wood.
I built the nest walls high and twisted the soil of the nest.
From the height of the edge of the nest I looked down on the forest soil, up into the branch work of the trees and into the sky.
I heard the singing of the birds and felt the breath of the wind.

In the dawn I began to freeze.
The nest was not finished yet. I thought, high above on the edge of the nest squatting:
I build myself a house, it sinks silently past the tops of the trees on the forest soil,
openly to the cold night sky and nevertheless warmly and softly,
deeply into the dark earth dug."

Melanie makes these stunningly beautiful works from hand printed tin and is greatly influenced by Romanian folklore. Before now I thought that she made only jewelry but she also makes amazing automata, you can see more of her work and buy directly from her at her webpage.

Bee Beards and Kevin Titzer

Above: Boy in the clouds
Above: Bee Beard
Above: Bird Cage
I have been thinking about beards and then bee beards, and have found Kevin Titzer's sculptures which share alot of visual language with my own work.
I keep thinking they are ceramic, but they are mixed media made of drift wood, wood, tin ect and painted.

Dominic Wilcox is a clever man

Wind Machines by Karl Gustav Gjertsen

Today is one of those days when the people who's talents I want to share with you, are elusive on the web. Here is one example of Karl Gustav Gjertsen's works.

Solveig Ovanger Motstand, Hide and Skin

Solveig Ovanger Motstand, I am thwarted in my attempts to find more examples of work by Solveig, who makes sculptural pieces out of hide and skin including fish skin. I love the plumpness of this piece.

Chaquita Nahar

Wonderful rings by Chaquita Nahar, who is the Head of Department Jewelry & Product design Academy of Fine Arts, Maastricht, Holland.

Wenqin Chen at Sattchi

Wenqin Chen painted bronze, 'Upside Down' 2007
"The bird roost does not where to be possible to seek, the leaf falls there is no root to go back to.” which is a Chinese proverb. I am thinking the most intrepid ecology sometimes also is very frail; it can be destroyed by people felling and destroying tree. '' Wenqin Chen
Wenqin does very varied sculpture, I will be featuring some more of his work next month.

Brian Griffiths is a Junk Yard inventor, a sculptor of trash and treasure, who weaves wardrobes tables and clutter into antiquities of wondrous childlike fantasy. Brian moulds magic from forlorn objects of mundane domesticity into sumptuous mythology.

Henrique Oliviera's Pealings and Layers

Henrique is an artist from São Paulo he became fascinated by pealing fencing, hoarding and bill boards and the textures of warping plyboard, He now uses these materials to create these stunning and disturbing instillation's. He uses 'tapumes', which in Portuguese can mean fencing, boarding, or enclosure, as a title for many of his large-scale installations. The term makes reference to the temporary wooden construction fences seen throughout the city of São Paulo where Henrique Oliviera lives.

Lisa Kokin

Above: Seamen 2001
Above: How do men get oil
Above: Vestige

Lisa combines creative destruction with assimilation and preservation to make these incredible pieces and installations. Like books her work appears to be a unified pleasing structure, but reveals hidden depths the more you investigate its surfaces and meanings.

Nici Ruggiero

Nici Ruggiero is a fantastic ceramicist who makes clay forms that are geological or fossil like in their beauty and appeal.

Helena Edman Jewelry

Beautiful, stylish jewelry from Swedish goldsmith Helena Edman.

The sun is out and yet I'm thinking about rain.

I like the way it always seems to rain when you've had a drastic hair cut, and that led me to think of rain bouncing on a bald head. Then I thought about how when everyone is scowling into the oncoming rain I always try to be contrary and smile. So I'm thinking about how your attitude could change your view of rain, and changing its colour, for different people in my pictures.
However its a wonderful sunny day here and I hope it is for you too.
